Creating and Managing SMS Reports

The Panacea Platform has a built in tool that allows you to build and manage reporting. To start using this tool you will need to navigate to SMS > Reports on the left hand menu.

01

You will then be listed with all the reports you have saved. You can add a new one by clicking on the New Report button. You will then be taken to the Report Builder.

02

You will be presented with a list of options that you will need to select:

Report Group 1. The first part of the Report Builder deals with grouping data. When building reports you are able to group the data by various facets such as Account, Network, Country, SMSC and Time Period.

Report Fields. The next part of building your Report deals with selecting the data that you would like to see. Below is a breakdown of the types of data that you can request the system to present within your grouping.

  • Volume Processed. Select this to display the amount of messages that have been sent.
  • Volume Delivered. Select this to display the amount of messages that have been marked as Delivered to Handset.
  • Volume Pending. Select this option to display the amount of messages that are still awaiting DLRs (Delivery Reports)
  • Volume Failed. Select this option to display the amount of messages that have been marked as Undelivered.
  • Success Percentage. Select this option to display to percentage of messages delivered.
  • Total User Cost. Select this option to display the total cost to the user’s account.
  • Total User Message Cost. Select this option to display the total cost per message sent for the user’s account.
  • Average Delivery Time (Straight). Select this option to display the average delivery time.
  • Average Delivery Time (Relevant). Select this option to display the average delivery time. This option takes standard deviation into account and will show the most statistically relevant results.
  • Delivery Time Minimum. Select this option to display the minimum delivery time. The quickest message delivery time.
  • Delivery Time Maximum. Select this option to display the maximum delivery time. The slowest message delivery time.

Report Instances. The Report Builder can pull in data from multiple Panacea Mobile vSMSC platforms, if they have been linked. This is where you can select what systems you would like to pull data from.

Report Countries. Here you can choose what countries you would like to see data from. You can hold CTRL when clicking to select multiple items from the list. If you do not select any countries, the system will assume that you want to see data from all countries. Note that if there is no data for a country that you have selected, you will not see any results for that particular country.

Report Networks. Here you can choose what networks you would like to see data from. You can hold CTRL when clicking to select multiple items from the list. If you do not select any networks, the system will assume that you want to see data from all networks. Note that if there is no data for a network that you have selected, you will not see any results for that particular network.

Report SMSCs. SMSC is essentially the technical term for a SMS Gateway. Here you can choose what SMS Gateways you would like to see data for. You can hold CTRL when clicking to select multiple items from the list. If you do not select any SMSCs, the system will assume that you want to see data from all of them. Note that if there is no data for a SMSC that you have selected, you will not see any results for that SMSC.

Scrolling down the page you will see the following options:

03

Report HLR Gateways. This specifies the HLR gateways on the Panacea Platform that you wish to pull reports for.

Report Gateway Currencies. Each gateway is set to a particular currency (EUR / USD / ZAR etc) so here is where you can isolate gateways that use only certain currencies (for example, EUR) by selecting certain currencies. It’s important to know that if you are using this option, you should probably ‘group’ your results by Gateway Currency as well, as cost values are separate from currencies. The cost for something could be 500 EUR / USD / ZAR etc. So grouping by currency will help you see what currency you are looking at for this particular gateway.

Report User Currencies. Like gateways, each User (Account) is also set to use a particular currency (EUR / USD / ZAR etc), so this is where you can isolate certain users of a particular currency. It’s important to know that if you are using this option, you should probably ‘group’ your results by User Currency as well. As cost values are separate from currencies, the cost for something could be 500 EUR / USD / ZAR etc. So grouping by currency will help you see what currency you are looking at for this particular gateway.

Report Gateway Costs. This will show the total cost value for all or any selected gateways. The gateway cost is the hard cost that you are charged by an SMS Gateway to send a message and this is set under the gateway coverage. For example, if it costs 0.03 to send a message to a particular network for a gateway and you send 10 messages to that network through the gateway, your total gateway cost will be 0.3. Note that the currency is separate from the cost value, so this could be 0.3 EUR / USD / ZAR depending on what currency the gateway has been set to.

Report HLR Gateway Costs. This will show the total cost value for all or any selected HLR gateways. The HLR gateway cost is the hard cost that you are charged by an HLR Gateway to lookup a number using this gateway.

Report User Costs. This will show the total cost value for all or any selected Users (Accounts). The user cost is the price that has been set for a message sent to a particular network on the user’s (Account) routing profile. The difference here is that you may want to add a mark up to your gateway cost for the User (Account) in order to make a profit on each message sent. Therefore, The difference between your total gateway cost and your total user cost will be your profit.

down the page you will see the following options:

04

Report Users. Here you can choose what users you would like to see data from. You can hold CTRL when clicking to select multiple items from the list. If you do not select any users, the system will assume that you want to see data from all users. Note that if there is no data for a user that you have selected, you will not see any results for that particular user.

Report Client Data1.

Report Client Data3.

Period Type. This is the date range for data that you would like to see. So if you wanted to look at Volume Processed for all Users (Accounts) on the system, you will need to specify if you want to view data for the previous day, week, month or any other custom time period. Note: The Report Builder does not show data for the present day as data is summarised every evening, so the data for the present day would not have been summarised yet.

Report Limit. This allows you to limit the rows of data that are returned in the report results.

Ordering. This allows you to specify how you would like your data to be ordered. If you wanted to view the number of messages sent by each user from highest amount of messages sent to the lowest amount, then under Report Ordering 1 you would need to select Volume Processed and set the secondary drop down to Descending (in other words, show the results in order of the Volume Processed from the highest value to the lowest).

Timezone. This final option allows you to set the timezone of the report. This will eliminate errors in the reports caused by the date and time selections not being within the timezone you are trying to get the data for.

Once you are happy with the settings you can build the report by clicking on the Apply Filter button. If no data is shown then the system has no data relating to the report you have built. When viewing your Report results, you can scroll to the bottom of the results table and click on the Export button to export the table of results as a CSV file.

To save your Report, simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Show Save Options at the bottom right of the page.

05

You will then need to enter the following information to save.

  • Report Name. This is the name of the report.
  • Display on Dashboard. Checking this box will display your Report’s graph on the Reports Dashboard. .
  • Sort Order. Setting this will determine the order this report will be displayed as. Leave as 0 for the system defaults.

To view the saved reports you can click on the Reports List button. You will then have all saved reports listed out. You can then manage each saved report via the drop-down menu next to it.
